Theatrescapes
Staatstheater Nürnberg

The 48th episode of "Theatre Landscapes" takes us to the gingerbread, toy and medieval city of Nuremberg and introduces Bavaria's youngest state theatre. The three-part theatre was only named a state theatre in September 2003 by Bavaria's Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber.

Esther Schweins introduces the Franconian city of Nuremberg and the theatre in its anniversary season, which celebrates the 100th birthday of the opera house. Intendant Wulf Konold and actress Susanne Bormann, who appeared in the cinema films "Liegen lernen" and "Nachtgestalten", have their say. In addition, the Polish theatre man Tadeusz Kantor has a special connection with Nuremberg.
He exhibited there for the first time as a painter, object artist and performer in Germany, and in the seventies and eighties almost all the pieces of Kantor's "Theatre of Death" were performed in Nuremberg. Film clips bear witness to his work.
