They still exist, the crafts that were thought to have died out long ago. Master shoemaker Kornelia Thon works at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Here, she not only repairs, but also makes shoes to measure in her workshop. Together with costume designers and the set management, every detail from the crown to the sole is coordinated with the concept of a production. Together with four employees, journeymen and apprentices, she makes all the stage shoes herself that cannot be bought.

Singers' and actors' feet are naturally a sensitive area to work in. The stage shoes must be made in such a way that the performer does not have to give them a second thought during his work. On the other hand, the shoes can also have a great influence on the design of the stage character. So then the master shoemaker's credo is: "The performance also always has to do with the appearance!"
