Theatrescapes
Städtische Bühnen Münster

It is one of the youngest major cities, a demographic idyll, so to speak: Münster, the Westphalian student mecca with its more than 55,000 students, has always been a good place for the arts because it has precisely this young, curious public that is eager to experiment.

And a lot of tradition: Albert Lortzing was there as an actor and singer, and Götz Alsmann. The one gave his good name to the local theatre, the other almost sacrificed his good reputation to it.

The successful musician and entertainer from Münster reveals unpleasant truths about his failed operetta performance to presenter Esther Schweins. This edition of Theatre Landscapes also tells a lot about the cultural, architectural and literary history of an entire region that was and is shaped by theatre. From the converted slaughterhouse of the butchers' guild in 1774 to the daring post-war building, the five-section house in the German bicycle metropolis of Münster. And artistic director Wolfgang Quetes introduces the theatre's new season, which, with its choice of plays and venues, is completely in keeping with the 1200th anniversary of the diocese of Münster.
