Playwrights are not desk slaves who work on their texts in solitude. On the contrary, they are "very vital and very alive and very tangible in the middle of the theatre action", says Nis Momme Stockmann, in-house writer at Schauspiel Frankfurt. He is one of only a few playwrights who are permanently employed by a theatre.

The playwright's opinion is also needed for the realisation of the play. That's why he regularly attends conception and final rehearsals to find out how the director wants to realise his texts on stage. Of course, he tries as much as possible to bring his intention of the play into the production.

What mood do you want to convey? How are the characters created? This is a tough battle that the writer and director have to fight out among themselves. As a playwright, you not only have to be creative, but also communicative. Only in this way can Stockmann actively shape what happens on stage.
