Profession: Queen!
Mathilde of Belgium

She has a clear agenda for which she works tirelessly: poverty reduction, education, health and the empowerment of women and children. As a trained psychologist, she is a figurehead in the field of "mental health" and child welfare. From the Royal Palace, the mother of four has taken up the fight against cyber-bullying, with a specially produced video message: "Internet bullying is pathetic!" As honorary president of the Child Focus Foundation, she campaigns for missing and sexually exploited children. A topic that has moved Belgian society since the monstrous acts of Marc Dutroux in the 1990s. As Honorary President of UNICEF, she is committed to children's rights worldwide.

With her latest commitment, she is part of a global movement. In 2016, Queen Mathilde was appointed by the United Nations to the illustrious circle of seventeen special representatives for the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. In 2017, she was awarded the Honorary Award of the German Sustainability Award Foundation and in 2019 the Bambi for her commitment.

Filmmakers Annette von der Heyde and Julia Melchior accompanied the Queen on a state visit to South Korea and to the World Economic Forum in Davos.  They observed her during the visit of French President Macron and his wife Brigitte, at impressive commemorative ceremonies and small encounters in everyday life. They show a woman who is turned towards the people and wants to make a difference in the world. A Queen with a busy schedule who nevertheless took time for exclusive filming with ZDF: the team was received by the Queen in her personal office and was given a guided tour of the Royal Palace of Brussels in the footsteps of the royal dynasty.

Interview partners such as Alexander De Croo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Development Aid, or Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, reflect on the Queen's work. Ludwig Prince of Bavaria talks about the connection of the Belgian royal family to the Wittelsbach family, journalist Patrick Weber about her commitment as ambassador of the Crown and bridge builder between cultures.
