Torsten Körner
Angela Merkel
The Chancellor

The documentary takes time to show the staying power of the exceptional politician Angela Merkel and traces fundamental questions: Was the chancellor a guarantor of stability in stormy times or is she responsible for political stagnation? How does she feel about the refugee situation in 2015? How does she assess her climate policy? Did she ultimately fail as a Corona campaigner? Was she more of an advocate of the moment as a crisis chancellor? Where does her resilience come from and what drove her?

With the documentary ANGELA MERKEL - THE CHANCELLOR, directed by Torsten Körner, the BROADVIEW Pictures team embarks on a biographical-political search for clues that stretches from Templin to Washington, from the building of the Wall to its fall and beyond. It traces the patterns of mentality and historical formative forces that turned the young physicist from the GDR into a leading politician with breathtaking speed.

ANGELA MERKEL - THE CHANCELLOR is one of the most personal portraits of the former German Chancellor. In addition to the Chancellor herself, who was still in office at the time of the interview, the generation that has never experienced another person at the helm of Germany than Angela Merkel also has their say. In addition, international exclusive interviewees such as Barack Obama, Theresa May, Christine Lagarde report from the innermost circle of "power in the making".
