Ryan Gosling
Hollywoods Halbgott

Some celebrate him as a sex symbol and the most interesting actor of our time. Envious people talk about his smooth face, his washboard stomach, and thus explain his fame. It is undisputed that Ryan Gosling is one of the most successful actors of our decade.

In this film, director Jana Buchholz illuminates the actor's personal story. The Canadian has preserved something that is rare in the multimedia age - a private sphere. There are hardly any private photos, hardly anyone knows that he was bullied at school and then home-schooled, that he has band gigs in old people's homes and is the producer of a film about albino children in Africa. The pop culture phenomenon that is Gosling is also looked at. Masses of fan articles and websites are dedicated to him. He is not only considered a sex symbol, but also a feminist.

Key scenes from his films show the range of his acting and choice of roles. At 19, he appears as a Jewish neo-Nazi in Inside a Skinhead and earns great respect for it. His big breakthrough, however, comes as a romantic loner in Like a Single Day. Since the film Drive, he has also been one of the coolest and, since Crazy Stupid Love, one of the "sexiest" stars. To this day, he never settles on a role type and takes a risk with every film.

Interviews with friends, colleagues and experts bring you closer to the real Gosling. The result is a surprising portrait of a multi-layered man who deliberately hides behind his slick image.
