OUR LAND 1977
Under the Sign of Terror

Many beautiful events take place in 1977, but in the end the bloody terror of the RAF overshadows the year. The Schleyer kidnapping in Cologne marks the beginning of the "hot autumn" that will change our country.

At the beginning of the year we first experience the birth of a new magazine. EMMA is born. The birthplace is Cologne, the midwife is called Alice Schwarzer. EMMA is the first magazine that is for women and made exclusively by women. And another press product that makes history: Günter Wallraff sets out to expose the machinations of tabloid journalism with his book "Der Aufmacher".

For many young people 1977 is a good year. The skateboard comes to NRW and the Rockpalast night from Essen. Albrecht Metzger, presenter of the show, remembers the legendary premiere, the great music and the agony he had to suffer because his English was so bad. Not a good prerequisite for hosting a Eurovision programme and conducting interviews with international stars.

The terror continues throughout the year. Again and again there are deaths, street checks, house searches, calls for wanted persons. An oppressive atmosphere. Dieter Fox is stationed with the GSG9 in St. Augustin and recounts the terror year from his perspective, which reaches its dramatic climax in the "hot autumn". The assassination of Hanns Martin Schleyer keeps our country in suspense, the hijacking of the Lufthansa plane "Landshut" is terminated in Mogadishu - Dieter Fox is there first hand.

The film is narrated by Micky Beisenherz, who was born in Recklinghausen in 1977. He tells the stories and events of the year of his birth and makes the film a personal journey through time.
