OUR LAND 1981
Lots of coal

Quirky hairstyles, weird guys and lots of highlights - off to the 80s! We celebrated new stars - and went through serious crises.

1981 - For the first time, Horst Schimanski rioted through the "Tatort" in his filthy jacket. In Bonn, hundreds of thousands came to the first peace demonstration in the Hofgarten. And the women's football team SSG 09 from Bergisch Gladbach became world champions! The second film in the new WDR documentary series "Our Country in the 80s" tells of a time when the SPD ruled the country with an absolute majority; it was the year in which the unemployment rate rose to almost 400,000 - more than ever before. Savings had to be made everywhere, because there was literally "plenty of coal" missing. Between poppers, protests and sporting triumphs, the film also tells stories of people whose lives were to change fundamentally in that year.
