While being a guest at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich it "clicked" for King Carl Gustaf of Sweden. Four years after he first met Silvia Sommerlath, who was working as a hostess during the games of 72, he married her in Stockholm. The German girl from next-door became the new and uplifting face of the swedish gentry.
Starting a new chapter in the history of Sweden's monarchy, she quickly gained the hearts of the people. With her modest and noble appearance, Silvia dignified the Swedish royal family and made it shine in fresh glamour.
In celebration of her 70th birthday ZDF History takes a retrospective view on the life of the beloved Queen of Sweden.
