Thyssen – the name is legendary. And there is much more to the name than just heavy industry, exquisite art and immeasurable wealth.

The documentary "German Dynasties: The Thyssens" tells the story of one of the most influential German families as seen in the context of German history and looks for the legacy that the three main protagonists of the Thyssen saga have left. After looking back on the life and times of the founder August Thyssen the film focuses on two major players: the steel baron Fritz Thyssen and his tragic involvement in the Third Reich and Hans-Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza an important patron of the arts in the second half of the 20th century.
