Die Thyssens

Thyssen - the name is a myth. But not only heavy industry, exquisite art and immeasurable wealth are associated with it.

The documentary "German Dynasties: The Thyssens" tells the chronicle of one of the most influential families in the mirror of German history and goes in search of the legacy left by three outstanding protagonists of the Thyssen saga. After a review of the life and work of the founding father August Thyssen, the documentary sets two focal points biographically and historically: The steel baron Fritz Thyssen and his tragic entanglements in the Third Reich and the patron of the arts Hans-Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza in the second half of the 20th century.

First broadcast: Mon., 8 November 2010, 21:00, ARD.
