The Oetkers

The Oetkers: they are one of the best-known families in Germany. Since the beginnings of the family business almost 120 years ago, the Oetkers have shaped German society for generations. Their family history has become a piece of German history through great successes but also tragic setbacks.

But despite the immensely popular Oetker brand name, little is known about the family itself, about the secret of its success, its motives and the background to the many strokes of fate that have always accompanied the economic success story. In this film, his children August and Richard Oetker as well as Rosely Schweizer, Carl-Ferdinand Oetker and Alfred Oetker give detailed answers about what it really means to be an Oetker. Thus, for the first time, a true-to-life picture of their father Rudolf-August Oetker and his profound and contradictory character emerges. The picture is completed by the recollections of Maja Oetker, who speaks out in front of the camera for the first time.

First broadcast: Mon., 15 November 2010, 21:00, ARD.
