Fürth Municipal Theater

Franconian Fürth is often associated with companies such as Quelle and Grundig, with personalities such as Ludwig Erhard and Henry Kissinger.
There are also small curiosities here, such as a town hall that is modeled exactly on the Florentine Palazzo Vecchio.
And, not to forget, the "Adler" - Germany's first railroad ran from Nuremberg to Fürth in 1835.

The Jewish citizens are not entirely uninvolved in the city's prosperity.
Once lured by the city fathers with good conditions, a large Jewish community settled in Fürth.
Their history is still reflected throughout the city today, from the cemetery to the notches for the prayer scrolls on numerous front doors.
And the theater also benefited from this - in 1902, the Jews donated 60 percent of the sum for a new theater building.
However, this peaceful coexistence began to crumble as early as the 19th century and finally became impossible in 1933.
Today, the dance theater project "Mayim Mayim" - Hebrew for water - commemorates this time.
It is dedicated to a dark chapter in Fürth's history: the 33 Jewish orphans who were deported together with the director, Dr. Isaak Hallemann, and his family in 1942.
33 choreographers from all over the world sent 33 dancers to sponsor one child each.
The result was an international dance project whose sponsorship character also reached the citizens: 33 Fürth residents agreed to take the dancers into their homes.
The Fürth City Theatre is taking an unusual approach; by combining guest performances, co-productions and in-house productions, it is able to offer an extraordinary variety on stage - the attendance figures speak for themselves.
A new ensemble is put together for each project and so, in addition to major world premieres, Fürth city stories also make it onto the repertoire time and again.
Even Erhard, Grundig and Schickedanz find their way onto the stage!
