February 13, 1945 was the fateful day for Dresden.
Allied bomber units attacked the Elbe metropolis.
It only took one night and one day to completely destroy what had taken centuries to build.
Baroque Dresden, also known as "Florence on the Elbe" because of its magnificent buildings, was one of the last German cities to be largely spared from the bombing raids of the Second World War.
But in just 24 hours, the city was reduced to rubble.
At least 25,000 people met a horrific end in the firestorm.
The film simultaneously recounts the tragic events from the perspective of both the inhabitants of Dresden and the British bomber pilots who flew the raids on the city.
They were all part of a tragedy that knew no victor.
