Theater Portraits Episode 32 - 42
Germany has one cultural legacy which is unrivalled anywhere in the world: its theater scene. Theater in Germany is more lively and versatile than in any other land. Nowhere else in the world are there so many theaters, and nowhere else is the theater regarded as such an integral part of social life and subsidised as in Germany.
BROADVIEW TV, in association with 3sat and the digital channel ZDFtheaterkanal, portrays this unique theater scene: municipal and national theaters, rural theaters and private theaters, in small towns as well as major cities. In each thirty-minute documentary throughout 2005 on the actress Esther Schweins takes viewers on a tour through the history and the stories of eight individual theaters, depicting the past as well as the present of a cultural region – from Lübeck to Mannheim, from Münster to Potsdam.
