In the first 18 months of the war, German U-boats sank over a thousand British ships. Even Winston Churchill regarded these vessels as the greatest danger for the British Empire. But then the Allies made a stunning technological breakthrough which changed everything. This film depicts the dramatic events of the years between 1939 and 1943, revealing in brutal detail how the Battle of the Atlantic was transformed into a disaster for the German U-boats, after the initial period of success. 39,000 German submariners manned 863 U-boats – and over 27,000 of these men never returned.
